Union negotiators on Wednesday “received the clearest indication yet that our actions and solidarity are having an impact on our contract negotiations with Kroger,” UFCW Local 400 reported. After weeks of insisting on huge increases to premiums, copays, and other out-of-pocket healthcare expenses, “Kroger finally put forth a proposal that is closer to maintaining our current healthcare benefits,” the union said. Despite this progress, negotiators say they don’t yet have a deal they can recommend and urged members to keep the pressure on, with another day of action at five Kroger stores scheduled for Thursday from 4-6p.
