Dozens of DC residents teamed up at an evening town hall last Thursday to “Take Back DC.” “We need to put our voices together, because right now the developers are winning,” City Councilmember Elissa Silverman told the gathering. The town hall, sponsored by DC Jobs with Justice and Howard University student group HUResist, enabled city residents to share their experiences with unaffordable rent, lack of access to heat and hot water, and predatory bosses. In 2014, DC JwJ helped pass a city law that protects workers from wage theft, and is now organizing for stronger enforcement; click here to find out more about their Just Pay Campaign.
