As the #MeToo movement continues to pick up momentum and the number of women running for political office keeps growing, the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) is organizing to empower working women on the job and at the ballot box. As part of the “Sisters Not Afraid of Power” convening this week, CLUW will hold a rally to “fight for economic security, a voice at work, and safety on the job” at noon Friday in front of the AFL-CIO. “CLUW members will get out the vote and with labor and community allies take back our country in 2018!” says CLUW. Directly before the rally, CLUW will present awards to women who are leaders in their unions and communities, including AFSCME Secretary-Treasurer Elissa McBride and UFCW’s Karina Lopez. The awards celebration will begin at 10a in the AFL-CIO headquarters; email [email protected] to RSVP.
