Community Services Agency: Building Futures Apprenticeship Outreach & Recruitment Project
The GSA Building Futures
program seeks to provide employers and
apprenticeships with individuals who are OSHA
10 and CPR/First Aid certified, drug free,
and ready to work in the basic
construction trades. Building Futures is
a project currently funded through a contract
with the US General Services
Administration.
The project provides six-week pre-apprenticeship training programs for area adults and youth. The curriculum includes building trades core coursework, orientations to green jobs/weatherization, and hands-on training at the area’s union apprenticeship schools. In addition to the certifications, the core curriculum consists of blueprint reading, orientation to the industry, construction math, and an introduction to tools and materials. Students will also receive job readiness training, placement counseling, and support from staff beyond employment placement.
The Agency has made every attempt
to guarantee that we are offering qualified,
hard-working candidates for employment.
Students are screened to ensure that they have
a high school diploma and a driver’s license
and that they are drug free, academically and
physically capable, and genuinely interested in
the trades. In addition to the
pre-placement support, program staff will
follow-up with graduates and continue to be a
resource to contribute both to their success
and the success of the employer.
