Walker Recall Sparks DC Action
Wednesday, January 18, 2012
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)With more than a million signatures turned in
yesterday in Madison, WI to recall Wisconsin
Governor Scott Walker, local plans are ramping
up for a major action at next month’s
Conservative Political Action Conference in DC,
where Walker is to be the keynote speaker.
“Walker and his anti-worker friends at CPAC
are no more welcome in our nation’s capital
than they are back home in Wisconsin,” said
Metro Council President Jos Williams. The total
of a million signatures to recall Walker
represents nearly half of the Wisconsin
electorate, making this the largest recall
effort in American history. “In a Wisconsin
winter, an army of more than 30,000 Wisconsin
born-and-bred recall volunteers took to street
corners, malls, places of worship, dinner
tables and sidewalks to take their state
back,” said Ryan Lawler, board member for
United Wisconsin, the non-partisan grassroots
organization heading up the recall efforts.
