Occupy Our Homes Reaches Out to Labor
Friday, January 27, 2012
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)“Members of the Occupy movement and
homeowners are coming together to guarantee our
right to housing through collective action,”
Occupy DC activist Rob Wohl tells Union City,
“just like the labor movement does for
workplace rights and fair wages.” Wohl is
part of a growing movement within Occupy called
“Occupy
Our Homes” that’s helping homeowners
fight back against foreclosure and draw
attention to the ongoing foreclosure crisis in
America. A working group at Occupy DC is
reaching out to metro-area families threatened
by foreclosure. “We know that union members
have been battered by fraudulent banks and
unfair foreclosures,” says Wohl, “and we
want to support them as they fight back. Since
labor is committed to building power for the 99
percent, we expect that we can find
opportunities to work together in solidarity."
