Howard University Hospital Workers Battle Unionbusting
Wednesday, February 8, 2012
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Wisconsin-style unionbusting has come to DC.
Howard University Hospital has declared an
impasse in negotiations and, effective this
Thursday, is moving to implement their final
contract offer, says NUHHCE/AFSCME 2094
President Lauretta Stevenson. “It’s not
even about money,” Stevenson told Union City.
“What they want is control; they’ve
stripped all union rights out of the contract.
Anything requiring them to bargain with the
union is gone. Period.” Local 2094 represents
some 1,000 workers at the hospital, who last
fall overwhelmingly approved a strike vote. The
workers – who have been circulating a
petition at the hospital to bring the
administration back to the table – will rally
outside Howard University Hospital on
Wednesday, February 15.
