Giant Workers Say "A Deal is a Deal"
Friday, March 16, 2012
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Giant supermarket workers last week were in the
Netherlands drumming up awareness of Giant
parent company Ahold's broken promises to
workers here in the US. The workers, who are
active in the iHold
Campaign -- the coalition of
Netherlands-based Ahold company workers in the
United States and Europe -- visited the suburbs
of Amsterdam, working alongside Dutch union
ally, FNV Bondgenoten. They informed customers
of Dutch grocer Albert Heijn -- also owned by
Ahold -- about how Ahold is not allowing U.S.
workers in the Giant-Carlisle division the
rights to join an association of their choice
without being intimidated. FNV Bondgenoten
treasurer Willem Noordman (at right)
joined the workers, asking customers to
tell Ahold "Afspraak is Afspraak" or " A Deal
is a Deal." Click

is in predominately in Dutch you can share your
words of support in English. You can also

week’s event! - photo by Kayla Mock
