(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Twenty-four-year-old Korey Richardson (at
right), a custodian at Kettering Middle
School in Prince George’s County, hopes to
own his own design studio some day.
Richardson’s dreams got a boost this week
from his union, SEIU 400 PG, when he won one of
the local’s six scholarships, enabling him to
continue his fine art studies at Prince
George’s Community College. “I’ve been
paying out of pocket and this will be a great
help,” Richardson said at the awards ceremony
Wednesday morning at the union hall in
Hyattsville. “It’s a blessing to be able to
provide a record $8,000 in scholarships this
year,” Local 400 President Sonny Reed told
the winners. “We wish you all the very best
in your educations as you go forward.” Other
winners – all high school
seniors
and children of SEIU 400 members -- were Calvin
Rogers, Sade Holland, Daryl Dent Jr., Karina
Sanchez and Brittini Goines. - photos:
