MD COPE Report: Labor to Lobby at Special Session on Gaming in Annapolis
Wednesday, August 8, 2012
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Area labor leaders and activists are heading to
Annapolis tomorrow to lobby the House of
Delegates in support of a bill approving a
voter referendum this Fall on expanding gaming
to National Harbor (pictured at right).
“It’s important for all unions to
demonstrate a united front in Annapolis to
support the thousands of union construction and
permanent jobs that would result from building
and operating a resort casino/hotel at National
Harbor,” said Washington Building and
Construction Trades Council President Vance
Ayres. “The Associated Builders and
Contractors has already started a media
campaign to try to block a Project Labor
Agreement (PLA) on the construction of the
casino/hotel,” added Metro Council President
Jos Williams. “Our solidarity in our effort
to counter this is critical.” For details on
the lobbying effort (where & when to meet),
