WHUT-TV Workers Battle Union-Busting at Howard
Wednesday, August 15, 2012
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Barely a week after WHUT-TV workers rejected
management’s contract and authorized a strike
in early July, WHUT-TV fired four of its six
union-represented technicians. The NABET-CWA
Local 31 members have filed charges with the
National Labor Relations Board and at noon
on Thursday will take to the streets "to
show Howard University and their public
television station that we expect better!" says
Local 31. The noontime rally for fair labor
practices is expected to draw members of the
local, students returning to campus after the
summer break and supporters from the metro DC
labor community. The local is also mounting a
campaign to bring pressure on Howard’s
Board of Trustees and the Community
Advisory Board of WHUT-TV. “If you know
any of these people, please reach out to them
and urge them to stop the union busting at
WHUT-TV,” urges NABET-CWA Local 31.
