Full-Court Press on Displaced Worker Bill Vote Tomorrow
Monday, September 17, 2012
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)From phone-banking and canvassing to ads on
Facebook, in the Montgomery County Gazette as
well as an online
petition to Council members, 32BJ SEIU is
“pulling out all the stops” to pass the
Displaced Worker Protection Act tomorrow, says
32BJ Area Director Jaime Contreras. “This is
a common sense approach to provide temporary
protection for hard-working men and women who
lose their jobs through no fault of their
own,” Contreras added. “Businesses and
property owners have flourished under this law
in DC and in other cities because it allows
them to compete on the quality of their
services without hurting workers.” The bill
comes up for a vote tomorrow at the Montgomery
County Council. “Hundreds of concerned
citizens have already sent Council members
letters urging them to do the right thing,”
says Contreras, urging supporters to do so as
well. Click
