NECA DC and IBEW Local 26 Help Local Kids Install Electrical Wire at Big Build
Friday, October 12, 2012
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)The Washington,
D.C. Electrical Alliance – which includes
IBEW Local 26 – gave local kids a hands-on
glimpse into the career of an electrician at
National Building Museum’s Big Build on
Saturday, September 22. Members of the Electrical
Alliance and its Joint Apprenticeship and
Training Committee (JATC) sponsored two booths
where kids installed wire to light a bulb, bent
conduit and decorated light switch plates. This
year’s Big Build had record attendance of
4,550; it introduces Washington, D.C. area boys
and girls to a wide range of respected
professions with interactive demonstrations,
games and activities, while educating them on
the built environment. The Electrical Alliance
is a cooperative effort between electrical
contractors of the Washington, DC
Chapter of NECA and skilled
craftsmen
and craftswomen of the International
Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local
26. Sponsored by the Electrical Alliance,
the JATC offers three and five year
tuition-free telecommunication and electrical
apprenticeship programs. Visit the Electrical
Alliance on Facebook to learn more and view
