Solidarity Center News: Big Win for Electricity Workers in Mexico

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)A big court win for electricity workers in
Mexico could mean more than 16,000 fired
workers will be offered reinstatement and
receive back pay. The Mexican government
shuttered the electricity company, Luz y Fuerza
del Centro three years ago. Workers from the
Mexican Union of Electricity Workers (Sindicato
de Electricistas de México, SME) lost their
jobs and their collective bargaining agreement
was terminated. The court ruled the contract
termination was invalid. SME members, who
received global support from other independent
unions, human rights groups, peace activists
