IBEW 1900 Members Head to NYC to Help Restore Power
Thursday, November 1, 2012
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)A team of Pepco workers – members of IBEW
1900 – headed up to New York City yesterday
to help restore power. “Con Edison has asked
for mutual assistance regarding their
underground system,” reports Local 1900
president Jim Griffin. Pepco “put together a
group of 10 Transformer Shop testers, 10
Underground Cable Splicers, and two Auto
Mechanics along with a couple of supervisors
and a Safety Specialist” who headed up to New
York from Pepco's Benning Road complex in
Northeast DC. “Most don't realize that there
is a vast underground network of feeders,
transformers and the like as part of the entire
electric distribution system of a utility,”
Griffin noted. “Water is its nemesis just as
wind and falling trees are to our overhead
system.” Read more reports in the AFL-CIO Now
