Monday, May 5, 2008
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Bill Fletcher, Jr. and Costa Rican labor
activist Omar Salazar will discuss “The
Future of Labor Solidarity in the Western
Hemisphere” today from 5-7P. Inspired by the
forthcoming book Solidarity Divided: The Crisis
in Organized Labor and a New Path toward Social

past challenges to solidarity between North
American and Latin American workers, corporate
expansion throughout the hemisphere, and what
needs to be done to unite workers in the
hemisphere to work together to challenge
corporate power.” Fletcher, a longtime labor
activist, is the Director of Field Services
& Education for the American Federation of
Government Employees (AFGE), serves as
executive editor of BlackCommentator.com and is
Board President of the International Labor
