Hundreds Turn Out to Honor NoVA Volunteers

Northern Virginia union members were
recognized for their volunteer achievements in
2007 at Friday's Northern Virginia Central
Labor Council (NoVA CLC) Volunteer Recognition
Dinner. "We had about 300 people in attendance,
including local elected officials and
congressional candidates as well as many union
members and their families," NoVA Central Labor Council President
Dan Duncan tells UNION CITY! United Mine
Workers of America President Cecil Roberts and
his own "Amen Chorus" - featuring Duncan, Metro
Council President Jos Williams, Utility Workers
of American Secretary-Treasurer Gary Ruffner,
Virginia State AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer
Doris Crouse-May, and Virginia State AFL-CIO
President Jim Leaman - fired up the crowd
during Roberts' Spirit of the Working Man
Address. Attendess also participated in a
silent auction that included a signed "UFCW for
Obama" poster and a starter collection of
labor-related presidential campaign pins,
including a 1936 FDR pin. The event and auction
helped raise funds for NoVA CLC activities and
the NoVA Committee on Political Education.
