Forum on Workers' Rights in Liberia Tonight

Leaders of the Firestone Agricultural
Workers Union of Liberia (FAWUL) will wrap up
their DC trip tonight at 6:30P with a public
forum on the fight for economic justice and
workers’ rights in Liberia. Speakers at
tonight’s event will include FAWUL President
Austin S. Natee, FAWUL Secretary General Edwin
B. Cisco, David D. Sackoh, Secretary General of
the Forestry, Logging and
Industrial Workers' Union of Liberia, and
Oretha D. Garway, Vice President of the
Forestry, Logging and Industrial Workers Union
of Liberia. The workers received the
AFL-CIO’s George Meany – Lane Kirkland
Human Rights Award last night for their fight
to win the first-ever independent,
rank-and-file run union at the Liberian
Firestone rubber plantation (Labor
Updates 1/10/08 UC). The workers’ visit
coincides with a Solidarity Center photo
exhibit and the launch of a new AFL-CIO and
United Steelworkers of America video on the
workers’ struggle and victory. The photo
exhibit runs through Friday in the AFL-CIO
