(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Call-In Campaign Asks Bain to Put Kids Before Profits: Following rallies last month in DC, Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles (Protesters Voice Concern Over Bain Buyout, Quality of Care 8/4/08 UC), the Tell Bain to Put Kids First campaign launched a two-day national call-in campaign on Wednesday to pressure Bain Capital officials to commit to quality care and good working conditions at Bright Horizons childcare facilities. Bain - a public equity firm notorious for buyouts that ended in layoffs, closures, and bankruptcies - recently bought out Bright Horizons and has already saddled the childcare company with hundreds of millions of dollars in debt. The call-in action continues through today. State Fed Labor ’08 Blog Launched: The Maryland State and DC AFL-CIO Labor 2008 Blog is up and running. "We will post Labor 2008 articles and pictures for all to see," reports State Fed Political Director Denise Riley.
