Majority Leader Steny Hoyer was the guest of honor at the Tri-County COPE Holiday party last Friday. "Steny has been there for us,” said Tri-County COPE Chair Bill Grooms, recognizing Hoyer as β€œone of organized labor's own; and we will be there for him." Hoyer cited the support of organized labor and remembered the African American community that helped make the difference over 30 years ago in a tough election to win his Congressional seat. "The rest is history,” Hoyer joked. Hoyer also thanked labor for responding to his call to support Frank Kratovil, who won a close race to become the first Democrat to win in the 1st District in 18 years. "I asked you to help Kratovil and you did, big time. He won and we will never forget what you did,” Hoyer said.
