CSA's "News You Can Use": Providing For The Basics
Monday, June 1, 2009(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
“Knowledge is
power,” reports Community Services Agency
(CSA) Director Kathleen McKirchy, "the more
folks know about resources, and the more they
attempt to take charge of their own affairs,
the better off they are.” Union members are
encouraged to contact the CSA or check out the
AFL-CIO national
website for unemployed workers to find
local resources to help them through times of
need. Additionally, workers can access vital
information about health care coverage by
visiting local
public health walk-in clinics; determine
eligibility for the Children’s Health
Insurance Program by calling 1-877-KIDS-NOW; get
quotes based on individual situations;
and sign up
for clinical trials which would
provide free care. “Providing for the basics
is getting harder and harder,” adds McKirchy,
“these resources can help.”
