Wednesday, December 9, 2009(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
The “season of
giving” is off to a great start, reports
Community Services Agency Executive Director
Kathleen McKirchy. “Needy families have been
adopted by AFGE, the AFL-CIO Housing Investment
Trust, AFGE Women's and Fair Practices, Change
to Win, the National Labor College, and the
International Association of Fire Fighters.”
Food/toys have been collected by the National
Electrical Benefits Fund and the Bricklayers
and Allied Craftworkers, McKirchy adds. “Lots
of organizations are continuing to do gift
card, toy, money and non-perishable food drives
and will be reported on in future Union
City's.” Financial contributions have come
from AFGE Local 3615, Sheet Metal Workers Local
100, CWA Local 2108, Boilermakers Local 193,
SEIU Local 500, Washington-Balrimore Newspaper
Guild (CWA 32035) the American Federation of
Teachers and the management and staff at the
Letter Carriers Health Benefit Plan. “All of
this tremendous work and generosity will help
make the holidays that much brighter for many
area working families,” says McKirchy.
