Trades Urge Support For DC Employment Act
Tuesday, February 2, 2010(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Supporters of pro
local-worker legislation are urging trades
workers and their supporters to turn out for
this morning's introduction of the bill in the
DC City Council. The bill would require that a
substantial percentage of workers on District
government-assisted projects be District
residents and has been drawing stiff opposition
from the Chamber of Commerce and Associated
Builders & Contractors, the anti-union
trade association, because of project labor
agreement (PLA) provisions. "It is important we
make a showing," says IUEC's Jim Lowery. "We
will meet on the 5th floor of the Wilson
Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW about
10a; wear your union colors!"
