DC Employment Stimulus Bill Introduced
Thursday, February 4, 2010(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
"We're tryin' to get a project labor
agreement for everything being built with DC
money to try to get some of the DC residents to
work," Elevator Constructors (IUEC) Local 10
Business Manager Jim Lowery told Workers
Independent News (WIN). "There's large
unemployment in Washington," added Lowery. The
local employment stimulus bill was introduced
in the D.C. City Council Tuesday (Trades
Urge Support For DC Employment
Act, Union City
2/2/2010). The DC Employment Act would
require government-assisted projects to hire a
substantial number of DC residents. It's backed
by the construction trade unions and could pass
as soon as April. Click
