Immigrant Rights Highlight Indie Film Festival
Friday, March 5, 2010(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
The struggles and
day-to-day barriers faced by immigrants is a
focus of this year's DC Independent
Film Festival. Featured films include
Saturday's screening of "Immigrant Nation!: The
Battle for the Dream" and "The Mills."
Immigrant Nation tells the story of the modern
immigrant rights movement and the struggle of
single mother Elvira Arellano, who fought
against her deportation. Both films screen on
March 6 at 3:30P. "DC Jobs with Justice is
partnering with the award-winning DC
Independent Film Festival to bring you a series
of short and full-length feature movies under
the lens 'This is America: Films on
Immigration,'" says DC JwJ's Ruth
Castel-Branco. The Festival runs through March
14. "Order your tickets through DC JwJ and half
the proceeds will go towards supporting workers
in the District," adds Castel-Branco. Click
