(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

With WMATA proposing drastic reductions in Metrorail and Metrobus service, a broad coalition has formed to urge area jurisdictions to provide more funding to keep Metro running. ATU Local 689 has joined with transit, environmental and community groups to wage a "Fair Share for Metro" campaign against the proposed cutbacks in Metro service.  Take action now with one easy click here to tell your local official to avoid service cuts by adding additional funding to Metro. Proposed cutbacks include elimination of 8-car trains, truncating the Yellow Line, widening headways, opening later and closing earlier as well as eliminating 12 bus routes and curtailing dozens of others.  Metro is also proposing to increase fares from 15-30% on bus and rail.
