(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

Elbridge James (l) - this year’s Evening With Labor Wilhelmina Rolark Outstanding Citizen award-winner - has a stellar public interest record.  For years he’s been a community leader, a state vice-president for the NAACP, a vice-president for the Montgomery County NAACP, and a longtime President of Progressive Maryland. He also works to advance civil rights for gays and lesbians working with the Black Family Alliance.  Over the last three years, he has worked closely with labor to promote changes in Maryland law to provide for rest periods for workers, has been actively supporting the health care interests of workers, and has been a leader for living wages in Maryland. Don’t miss one of metro Washington labor’s biggest nights of the year! As many as 1,000 area labor activists and friends will gather at the 33rd annual Evening With Labor this Saturday: email kmckirch@dclabor.org today to get your tickets. Tomorrow: JC Turner Award for Outstanding Trade Unionist of the Year - photo courtesy Progressive Maryland
