Workplace Safety Town Hall Tonight
Tuesday, July 27, 2010(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
“An average of 14
workers die each day in this country because
the current occupational safety and health laws
are weak,” says Sara Markle-Elder, who is
organizing tonight’s town
hall meeting on tough new legislation that
seeks to strengthen mine and workplace safety
rules. “The Robert C. Byrd Miner Safety and
Health Act (H.R. 5663) will be the first update
to the Occupational Safety and Health Act since
it passed in 1970,” adds Markle-Elder,
“it’s critical that we tell Congress to
pass this bill!” The town hall meeting –
which starts at 7P at the Unitarian
Universalist Church of Arlington – is
sponsored by the National Committee for
Occupational Safety and Health, the Northern
Virginia Area Labor Federation, the
Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO and
the Virginia AFL-CIO. Click
