Thursday, September 9, 2010(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Union City
has won first place as Best Electronic
Newsletter in the International Labor
Communications Association (ILCA) Labor Media
Awards this year, the third consecutive award
and the second time winning top honors. In 2008
Union City won as best State and Local
Body publication and last year it won Honorable
Mention in the International, National and
Other Labor Organizations category. “We’re
tremendously honored by this recognition from
our peers,” said UC Managing Editor Chris
Garlock. “Chris and Adam (Wright, Assistant
Editor) work hard to get the news out to the
local labor community every day,” added Metro
Council President Jos Williams, “even when DC
closed down during the February snowstorms,
Union City came out every day,
covering the efforts of union members to keep
the metro region moving.” Garlock and
Williams credited UC readers “for keeping us
focused,” the Council’s affiliates for
their “regular and reliable” reporting on
local activities, and the Executive Board for
its “unstinting and unwavering support.”
The 2010 ILCA awards will be formally presented
at the annual Labor Media Awards Luncheon in
November.
