Thursday, May 19, 2011(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
As a follow-up to the
National Workers' Rights hearing in November
2009, Saturday’s DC Asian Pacific American
Workers' Rights Hearing – scheduled to begin
at 10:30A
at the National Education
Association – will feature local
worker testimonials on the right to organize,
wage theft, immigrant worker exploitation and
civil rights. “Given the current attack on
working people throughout the country, the
hearing provides a local perspective of
personal courage and strategies in the fight
for worker solidarity and economic justice,”
say event organizers. Invited speakers include
Miya Saika Chen (Advisor on Community
Engagement, White House Initiative on Asian
Americans and Pacific Islanders), Bonnie Kwon
(Coordinator, Restaurant Opportunities
Center-DC), David Carpio (National Education
& Training Cordinator, AFL-CIO), Tina Pham

Center (ROC)-DC member), Rajini Raj (Washington

United) and Millet Panga (educator/member of
