Rally To Hold American Water Co. Accountable
Wednesday, June 8, 2011(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Labor and community allies will rally
against the American Water Company – the
largest for-profit water utility in the US –
in Alexandria, Virginia this Thursday to demand
accountability for “steep employee cuts and
consumer rate hikes,” reports the Utility
Workers Union of America. The action – which
is co-sponsored by SEIU Local 32BJ and the
AFL-CIO – is part of a national effort to
“fight back against demands by American Water
to impose substantial takeaways in contract
negotiations and threaten the job security of
workers under local agreements.”
Demonstrators will meet at the King Street
Metro station at 10:45A; click
