Labor Walk Draws A Crowd
Monday, June 13, 2011(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
More than two dozen
labor history fans turned out for Friday’s
edition of the Washington Worker’s Walking
Tour, including Minority Outreach Conference
attendees and local activists. Metro Council
Union Cities Coordinator Chris Garlock led the
Tour, which included the AFL-CIO lobby murals,
the 1953 CIO headquarters, the Real Roosevelt
Memorial, Joe Hill’s ashes; bas relief
depictions of Labor & Trade at the FTC, the
1895 Knights Of Labor HQ, the Bonus Army and a
glimpse of the brand-new lobby bas relief at
the Teamsters HQ. The Tour benefited the Metro
Washington Council’s Community Services
Agency. Another Tour is planned for the Fall
and will benefit DC Jobs with Justice.
