DC Launch Set for Caring Across Generations Campaign
Thursday, July 7, 2011
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)The
national Caring Across Generations Campaign --
initiated by Jobs with Justice, the National
Domestic
Worker Alliance and other partner groups --
will kick off with a free
local event in Washington on July 12 at the
Washington
Hilton. The campaign is focusing on winning
better public policy for
home care workers and helping them organize.
“Every eight seconds
someone in our country turns 65 years old. As
our population ages,
they’ll need assistance and they deserve to
have it in
their home and with dignity,” says DC Jobs
with Justice organizer
Lillian Walker Shelton. “We look forward to
working together on the
goals of this campaign which include job
creation, labor standards,
training, citizenship opportunities, and a tax
credit
for families who have to pay a home care
worker to take care of their loved
ones.” Click here for
