McNutt Urges Other Grocers to Follow Albertson's Lead and Eliminate Self-Checkouts
Wednesday, July 13, 2011
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)“In-person customer service is the
single greatest asset union supermarkets
offer,” said UFCW 400 President Tom McNutt on
Monday in response to Albertson LLC's* decision
to eliminate self-checkout systems from all
stores by the end of August. “When you buy
groceries, there’s nothing like the
efficiency, quality service, professionalism
and smile of a Local 400 cashier member serving
your needs at the cash register. It’s the
advantage none of our competitors can match.”
McNutt urged Safeway, Giant, Shoppers, Kroger
“and all of our grocery employers to follow
Albertson’s lead and make the
forward-thinking decision to end their failed
experiments with self-checkout.” Click here
