Monday, July 18, 2011
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)The Washington Teachers Union Summer
Movie Series features a screening of The Inconvenient
Truth Behind Waiting for
Superman this afternoon at 1:15 at the
Benning Road/Dorothy Height Public Library. The
screening comes in the wake of Friday’s
firing of more than 200 DC teachers, and in the
midst of planning for the national "Save Our
Schools" march and rally coming up on July 30.
Written and directed by New York City public
school teachers and parents in response to
Waiting for
Superman – a film widely seen by
teachers as misleading -- The Inconvenient
Truth Behind Waiting for Superman
“depicts the real-life experiences of public
school parents and educators to show how these
so-called reforms are actually hurting
education” says WTU Local 6. The film “also
highlights the kinds of real reform - inside
schools and in our society as a whole - that
are urgently needed to genuinely transform
education in this country.
