Congregations Gear Up for Labor Day Programs

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
This year’s Labor in
the Pulpits/Labor on the Bimah program will
kick off Labor Day weekend and continue through
September. The program offers a way for
congregations to raise working people’s
issues during their worship services as well as
celebrating working people in their communities
and offering prayers of support. Some
congregations will be inviting union members
and other workers to speak to them, including
members of UFCW Local 400, SEIU 32BJ, and
Organizations United for Respect at Walmart.
The program is jointly coordinated by Jews
United for Justice and DC Jobs with
Justice/Interfaith Worker Justice of Greater
Washington, who are working to produce resource
packets congregations can use to educate their
members and prepare worship. So far, dozens of
congregations in the DC Metro area are signed
up to participate. For more information email
