(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Dedication Week for King Memorial:
Huge crowds of area residents and visitors are
expected to mingle with dignitaries,
congressional leaders and the diplomatic corps
this week at events marking the dedication of
the Martin
Luther King, Jr. National Memorial. Tuesday
is DC Residents' Day as Mayor Vincent Gray and
the Mayor’s Host Committee – which includes
Metro Council President Jos Williams – will
welcome District residents to preview the
newest memorial on the National Mall. “In
addition to Dr. King’s well-known battles for
economic justice, organized labor has played a
key role in making this Memorial a reality,”
says Williams, “and working people will want
to be there to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy of
struggle.” Hours are 8a-10P; line begins at
23 Street and Independence Avenue, SW; Tickets
are not required. Click
