Wednesday, August 24, 2011
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)The National Labor College’s
Bonnie Ladin Union Skills Program includes
Secretary Treasurers LM-2 Requirements
(September 19-23) and New Union Staff (October
23-28). LM-2 Requirements is five-day workshop
designed to provide effective tools, with
hands-on time in the computer lab for union
members, officers and staff to develop
proficiency with Quick Books as it relates to
the new LM-2 Informational Requirements. New
Union Staff focuses on developing the personal
skills and critical thinking needed to function
effectively in the many different roles of a
union staff member. The course will also
improve planning skills needed to manage
contract negotiations, run organizing
campaigns, and participate in running a local
union. To provide a better understanding of the
new staff member's role, the course will review
the basic structure, operation, and goals of
various labor unions. Staff members from a
number of different unions in attendance will
enrich the discussions, presentations,
exercises, class participation, and feedback.
