Second West Virginia Mine Tour Scheduled

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)If you missed the recent inaugural West Virginia Mine Tour, there’s another scheduled for September 25-27.  Stops include the Tamarack Cultural Center, the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine, the Whipple Company Store, the Matewan Historic District -- site of the "Matewan Massacre," a shoot-out reenactment, dinner with coal miners and families at Local 1440, a tour of Blair Mountain -- site of the Battle of Blair Mountain, the largest armed insurrection in US history excluding the American Civil War -- the McDowell County Courthouse, site of Sid Hatfield and Ed Chambers assassination, and the Bramwell Historic District and House Tour.  Tours depart from and return to Charles Town, WV.
