Fall Labor Season Kicks Off at Council Meeting

was high at Monday night’s Metro Council
meeting, as delegates fresh off the summer
break heard reports on the ongoing battle for a
contract at
Verizon – CWA 2336’s Mike Harris thanked
everyone for their support and urged volunteers
to leaflet Verizon Wireless stores;

-- organizing efforts at Walmart and by the
Downtown SAMS, as well as
last Friday’s win when furloughs at the FAA
were averted. There are a
number of events coming up;

In other meeting highlights, the Board and
delegates unanimously approved NNU's
Main Street
Contract for the American People,
approved President
Williams’ recommendation that Dena Briscoe
(APWU-
NCSML)
be appointed Council Secretary and Katherine
Taylor (1199 SEIU) be
appointed Trustee. Also approved was a .02 per
capita increase, based on
the increase in CPI. Watch for more reports
