Occupy DC to Take Over Freedom Plaza Today
Thursday, October 6, 2011
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)As
Occupy Wall Street-inspired protests continue
to spread across
the country, Occupy DC – now in their sixth
day – is headed to Freedom Plaza
today to participate in a large-scale gathering
and occupation in the nation’s
capital. Thousands are expected to converge on
Freedom Plaza, where they’ll
gather to “come up with just and sustainable
solutions to the crises we face
and demand that these solutions be presented
and that the people's needs be
addressed.” People will be arriving in
Freedom Plaza as early as 9a to get the
latest information on the day’s events and
volunteer opportunities on the
plaza, including joining committees and leading
workshops. At noon there will
be a concert and rally, activities are
scheduled for mid-afternoon, there will
be an evening program of music starting at 6:30
and the night will wind down
with a 9p candlelight vigil. Click here for a
