Walmart, Occupy DC Highlight Tonight's Delegate Meeting
Monday, October 17, 2011
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)An update on the ongoing DC occupations and
reports from two Walmart workers highlight
tonight’s Metro Council Delegate Meeting
(6:30p at the AFL-CIO). Girshriela Green is a
three-year Walmart associate from the Baldwin
Hills Crenshaw Plaza in Los Angeles,
California. Green started as a sales floor
associate, has been promoted three times and is
a model employee. “Throughout her time at
Walmart, Girshriela has experienced harassment,
work related injuries and total disrespect from
management at her store,” says the
Organization United for Respect at Walmart (OUR
Walmart). Kenny James is a former Walmart
Support Manager from Renton, Washington who was
on the management track but chose to step down
when he was told that in order to move up into
higher management, he had to treat associates
more poorly. He’s now a leader in OUR
Walmart.
