How To Help Occupy DC
Tuesday, October 18, 2011
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Hats and coats, tarps and tents. These are some
of the items occupiers in McPherson Square need
most as the days get shorter and the
temperature drops. What began as a few people
with signs on park benches has turned into a
tent city full of OccupyDC
activists looking to give voice to a revolt
against corporate control. As the occupation's
needs grow, supporters are finding ways to
help. Restaurants have sent over food and
office workers downtown are stopping by to drop
off first aid supplies and bags of food. To
coordinate this outpouring of support,
occupiers have set up a donation
website. Food and water continue to be
essential, as are clothing and supplies to help
keep occupiers warm and dry. Financial
contributions are always helpful; OccupyDC has
set up an account where supporters can donate
online through WePay
or PayPal
(to donate@occupydc.org). The
occupation in Freedom Plaza is also accepting
donations, which are specified on their website.
