Pride at Work ED Shorey to be Honored

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Longtime union – and gay rights – activist Peggy Shorey (pictured at right) will receive the President’s Award at the Gertrude Stein Democratic Club 35th Anniversary Leadership Awards this Thursday. Shorey is the National Executive Director of Pride at Work, a non-profit AFL-CIO affiliate dedicated to building “mutual support between the organized labor movement and the LGBT Community for social and economic justice.” As Executive Director Shorey helped convene the LGBT Table for the 2010 “One Nation Working Together” march on the National Mall and conducts trainings for local and international unions on LGBT-inclusive contract negotiations and for LGBT organizations on effective ways to partner with the labor movement. Shorey also serves as Chair of the Labor Coalition for Community Action, a coalition of the six AFL-CIO constituency groups.
