Marches & Teach-In at Occupy DC Today
Thursday, November 17, 2011
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Despite evictions in New York, Oakland and
Portland in recent days, the Occupy movement
continues to mobilize against Wall Street
greed, with several local actions planned in
conjunction with the 2-month anniversary of
Occupy Wall Street and the AFL-CIO’s National
Day of Action. Here in the nation’s capital,
international unions and locals have teamed up
with the DC occupations to carry out actions
across the District. A 2-day march by CWA that
began yesterday morning in Silver Spring will
end at Occupy DC in McPherson Square today
around 2p. CWA was joined by local leaders
along the route including Metro Council
president Jos Williams. Starting at noon today,
the Washington Teachers Union Local 6 and the
American Federation of Teachers will conduct a
teach-in at McPherson Square, demanding better
technology for schools, affordable education
for students, safe roads and bridges for the
community, and good jobs for the city. The
noontime teach-in will be followed by a march
to the Key Bridge at 2:30p, where SEIU’s
OurDC plans to line the sides of the bridge
from 4p to 6p to “call on Congress to create
jobs, stop cuts, and make Wall Street banks
pay.” Click

actions. -
