Labor Discount Tix for Billy Elliot MusicalMonday, December 12, 2011
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Billy Elliot the Musical – based on the 2000 labor fave film Billy Elliot – is coming to town for a series of holiday performances. The DC Labor FilmFest has arranged for discounted tickets for the December 13th-15th 7:30pm performances (see below for details). Called "the most inspiring show I've seen in years" by the New York Times, the show was honored with ten 2009 Tony Awards including Best Musical. Set in a small town in the North of England against the background of the historic 1994/95 miners’ strike, Billy, the son of a miner, discovers an extraordinary talent for dance, which he pursues in secret to avoid the disapproval of his family and community. In the end, he ends up inspiring them instead, and his life changes forever. Based on the internationally acclaimed film, Billy Elliot the Musical is brought to life by a phenomenal cast of 45 performers and the Tony Award-winning creative team – director Stephen Daldry, choreographer Peter Darling and writer Lee Hall – along with music legend Elton John, whose score is called "show-stopping and electric" by the New York Times.
