You have the right to receive unemployment benefits if you are fired from your job. D.C. workers who are terminated from their job for any reason other than gross misconduct are eligible for weekly payments of unemployment benefits. These benefits can last for up to 26 weeks, at a maximum of $359 per week. Unemployed workers must show that they are able and looking for work in order to continue receiving benefits.
