Here’s today's labor history, On this date in 1852, the earliest recorded strike by Chinese immigrants to the U.S. occurred when stonemasons brought to San Francisco to build the three-story Parrott granite building - made from Chinese prefabricated blocks - struck for higher pay. You can hear more about this in this week’s Labor History Today podcast, available on your favorite podcast platform, just search for Union City Radio. Today’s labor quote is by Roy Siemiller, president of the Machinists during the 1966 airline strike, which began on this date when 43,000 machinists walked out against five airline carriers. Roy Siemiller, who said: "Our members on these airlines are not satisfied with the offers made in negotiations so far. Under the American system and under American labor law they have a right to strike. Only under Communism and Fascism are human beings forced to work against their will.” Union City Radio is supported by UnionPlus, which provides unique products and discounts for working families.
