On today's labor calendar, catch a screening of the film “GerryRigged” at the Young Worker Movie Night tonight starting at 6pm in Alexandria. Also at 6 tonight, there's a phone bank for the DC Paid Family Leave bill. Full details on our calendar, dclabor.org, click on Calendar. Here’s today's labor history: On this date in 1932, the state militia was called in after 164 high school students in Kincaid, Illinois went on strike when the school board bought coal from the scab Peabody Coal Company. And in 1970, baseball umpires struck for recognition of their newly-formed Major League Umpires Association, winning after just one day. Today’s labor quote is by Woody Guthrie, from his song "All You Fascists": "I’m gonna tell you fascists You may be surprised The people in this world Are getting organized You’re bound to lose You fascists are bound to lose" Union City Radio is supported by UnionPlus, which is committed to improving the quality of life for all working families; find out more at unionplus.org.
