Over $300,000 dollars in back pay plus interest is on the way to eligible current, former and retired full-time associates at Kroger.
Back in 2013, UFCW Local 400 members caught Kroger cheating full-time associates out of their holiday pay by scheduling them fewer hours on weeks with holidays, in violation of their union contract. “Some associates were cheated out of more than $1,200 dollars in lost pay,” the union reports. Local 400 took the case to a neutral arbitrator, who ordered Kroger to pay up. “Without a union, that money would be lost to us,” said Local 400. Here’s today's labor history: On this date in 1882, as many as 30,000 marchers participated in New York City's very first Labor Day parade, demanding the 8-hour day. Today’s labor quote is by writer Charles Lamb, who said: "I always arrive late at the office, but I make up for it by leaving early."
